I am reading a new book. “The Fast Metabolism Diet” by Haylie Pomroy. I’m making so many new discoveries and so many dots are connecting! Though I’m sure many posts will come of it I wanted to share what had struck me the most so far (I’m only a fifth into the book mind you).
Ever felt like food was your enemy? …
Like just the act of eating was becoming as taboo as being a teenager sneaking out at 10pm? Between diet rules and allergies and foods to avoid for this disease and that, or the fear of a medications’ reaction, it’s a wonder restaurants are in business at all in our culture.
The real issue is that food and enjoying it has become taboo because the last thing Satan wants is for you to enjoy it. The very first thing God gave Adam in the garden was food bearing trees. In fact the trees were there before Adam was. Vegetation was created on the third day, Adam on the 6th! God was planning ahead joys for his children!
Genesis 2:9 “…and out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.”
Genesis 2:16 …”You may eat of every tree of the garden…”
He wanted food to be a joy that Adam had. Even to the point that it was pleasant to the eye! It was to be enjoyed by all of Adam’s senses! God’s gifts are always good.
What was the very thing that Satan attached his sinfulness to? The very thing God then instructed that they not eat? A fruit tree. Was this to stress them out about what they could and could not eat? NO! This was to put in place a freedom of choice. They were to have faith that what God had given them was all they ever needed or needed to know, but we were created free to make our own choices and so the tree was allowed in the garden.
Genesis 2 17 “…but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die”
Satan knew how much Adam enjoyed food. The enjoyment of food was the first thing God created with Adam in mind. You can’t get a more originally intended gift from God then that! Therefore it makes perfect sense that satan would want that very thing to be a temptation. He turns everything God does for good on it’s head.
Though satan mentioned power to Eve as a reward for eating the forbidden fruit, if she had not liked eating and counted every calorie or hadn’t knocked that fruit off her elimination diet list yet he would not have had a fighting chance in getting her to eat it. All she knew, though, was a joy and reward from eating. God had been the one to bless them with so many wonderful foods so how could this tree be so different?
Food isn’t a sinful thing we need to repent of. At one time some foods in the old testament were forbidden but we live under the new covenant of grace. We no longer have to tiptoe around things to stay holy, Jesus’ blood covers us white as snow and by his grace we are free to follow Christ without condemnation! Isn’t that fabulous!?
Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,…”
Friend, don’t let satan rob you of a joy that was intended for you since the beginning of time. He wants nothing more then to make you miserable. We claim healing over our bodies, we speak protection over our children, we pray against outside influences and stay plugged into our word, but have we claimed victory over eating? Have we told satan he is no longer in charge of our mindset on food and that the fear of it is from the pit and we won’t stand for it anymore?! We need to!
Claim your victory and enjoy the gift God gave us from he very beginning!
I will agree in prayer with you that God reveal to you the excitement in the basic joy of eating. It’s the first pleasure God gave Adam. All the fruits and seeds and food bearing plants in the garden were and are for his and our delight! Reclaim that delight that Satan has robbed from you! I speak joy and a renewed sense of wonder in the foods God has given us for our pleasure. He wants that most basic of joys back for you! That’s how how it was intended! We claim victory in Jesus name!
The book “The Fast Metabolism Diet” is so far the best way to approach this new way of eating. If food and you aren’t on talking terms I recommend this…
1) Reclaim your victory over eating and food! Tell satan he is no longer going to influence you in this matter and that this battle is won. That you are reclaiming the most basic of pleasures that God has given to his children.
2) Pray (with a spouse or accountability partner) for wisdom over what you read. That the holy spirit be your comforter and guide as you venture into this new wonderful victory with food. That his still small voice be strong and clear and thank him now for your journey is already victorious through Christ Jesus.
3) Invest in you, sit down with a highlighter and read this book. Claim your victory over it and read your word along with it. (You should be in your word daily but as you have questions about what you should be doing with your new found discoveries the best place to look is in your word and Google is a great concordance!)
I claim your victory with you!
1 Corinthians 15:57 “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”
In Jesus’ precious name! And his answers are “Yes and Amen!”
